San AndreasOnline
A new GTA: San Andreas multiplayer, launched in 2026, with the single-player streets back. Traffic, pedestrians, gangs and cops run on GTA's own AI, and every player sees the same city.
Only on San Andreas Online
The streets are full again
SA-MP and MTA switch off GTA's traffic and pedestrians, so their cities are empty. San Andreas Online brings them back with the single-player AI, synced for everyone on the server. The official freeroam server runs it right now.
-
GTA's own drivers
Cars, vans, trucks, motorbikes, BMXs and quads drive the roads with the same AI as single player.
-
Gangs on their turf
The Grove, the Ballas and the rest hold the same territory as in the story, and each city has its own cops.
-
A city that changes
Who's out depends on the area, the time of day, weekdays and rain, following the game's own population rules.
-
Jack a car, get a reaction
Pull a driver out and they might run, fight back or try to get their car back.
-
Same street for everyone
Every car and pedestrian is run by one player's game and shown to everyone else in sync. If that player leaves, someone else takes over and nothing disappears.
-
Ride along
Get into a free passenger seat and the driver keeps going.
New in 2026
A fresh start for San Andreas multiplayer
SA-MP came out in 2006 and MTA in 2009. San Andreas Online started in July 2026, on top of MTA's open-source code, to do what neither of them did: bring the single-player world online. It's moving fast, and every change is public.

In the original, the far side of town is a mess of low-detail boxes. Here the real buildings load all the way to the hills.

What's different
-
Bigger worlds
Servers can build maps up to 20 × 20 km, more than ten times the area of San Andreas, streamed by GTA itself like the original map.
-
Graphics options in the menu
Draw distance, distant lights and PS2 colours are regular settings. No ASI loader, no mod folder.
-
A menu that looks like San Andreas
The main menu and server browser are redrawn in the game's style. Discord sign-in is there if you want it.
-
Automatic updates
When a new version comes out, the launcher offers it. Every update is signed, and a file that doesn't match gets refused.
-
Your MTA:SA stays put
San Andreas Online installs in its own folder. If you already play MTA, nothing changes there.

FAQ
What is San Andreas Online?
San Andreas Online (SA:O) is a free multiplayer platform for GTA: San Andreas on PC, started in 2026 and built on Multi Theft Auto. Its servers can bring back GTA's single-player traffic, pedestrians, gangs and cops, synced so every player sees the same city.
How is it different from SA-MP and MTA?
SA-MP and MTA switch off GTA's traffic and pedestrians. San Andreas Online keeps MTA's Lua scripting and resources, brings the single-player street life back, adds longer draw distance, distant lights and PS2 colours as settings, and lets servers build maps up to 20 × 20 km.
Is it free?
Yes. It's open source under GPL-3.0, the same licence as Multi Theft Auto.
Do I need GTA: San Andreas?
Yes, the original PC version. San Andreas Online doesn't come with the game, and the Definitive Edition won't work.
Will it replace my MTA:SA?
No. It has its own folder, so you can keep both.
Is this the official MTA?
No. It's a separate project built on Multi Theft Auto's open-source code. The MTA team doesn't run it and hasn't endorsed it.
Does it have traffic and pedestrians?
Yes. GTA's own cars, pedestrians, gangs and cops, running the single-player AI and synced so every player sees the same street. SA-MP and MTA switch them off.
Is it still being developed?
Yes. Development started in July 2026, the first public release came out in August 2026, and new releases land every few weeks. The launcher offers each update, and every change is public on GitHub.
Can I host my own server?
Yes. Each release has server packages for Windows x64, Linux x64 and Linux ARM64.
Where can I get help?
Ask on the Discord. There's a help channel, and the people who run the servers hang out there too.
